The Responsible Boundary Between Awareness and Calibration

Recognizing a concern and performing a calibration are different technical activities with different requirements.

Why observation and referral can support safety without turning a general checklist into a calibration procedure.

An inspector or technician may be able to observe a warning, visible sensor-area damage, obstruction, a recent windshield replacement, or another condition that deserves further attention. Documenting and communicating that observation can improve the quality of the next step.

Calibration is vehicle-specific work

Calibration must follow the applicable procedure for the exact vehicle, equipment, feature, and repair condition. Depending on the vehicle, prerequisites may involve alignment, tire and loading conditions, ride height, steering-related values, target or road setup, environmental conditions, software status, and additional checks.

Awareness supports the referral

Project VISION supports awareness and appropriate referral. It does not propose that an annual inspection certify ADAS performance or substitute a generic checklist for trained diagnosis, repair, and OEM-directed calibration.
